Two USF Seniors, Mishari Aleisa and Anna Lewis, are traveling to Costa Rica to renovate a local community park and build a skate-park. They have partnered with Divertcity, Redbull and Ryan Sheckler to build a skatepark for the community of San Rafael, Costa Rica. They will embark on a two-day assembly + park renovation project, where they work alongside the community + athlete to revitalize a local skatepark in the action sports center of Latin America.
Mishari Aleisa:
"How I've made an impact on others: I teach skateboarding to middle school students! Also, I volunteer at a dog shelter-- I love dogs as much as I love people. What Inspired me to apply: I do whatever I can to give back. I Love to share happiness and explore new places at every opportunity. Skateboarding helps anyone connect, regardless of culture or background, so building a skate park is a guaranteed way to bring happiness! I hope to make connections with new people, experience Costa Rican culture, and have fun."
Anna Lewis:
"I have spent many years tutoring underrepresented and displaced kids. I helped students build skills in reading and math and worked to strengthen their sense of self to hopefully have them someday reach college. I also worked as a volunteer with Family House. This non-profit organization provides housing and living accommodations for families of children with cancer or life-threatening illnesses. I worked to create a home away from home for these families through participating in activities with the children and sharing meals with the families. Currently, I am working as an intern for The Humane League. Our mission is to reduce animal suffering and to promote social change for animal welfare."
